Journalism Restrictions Across the Globe United States Journalism is one of the foundational methods for gathering knowledge to share with the public. In the United States, press freedom is provided because of the First Amendment to the U.S. constitution. The amendment states that: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
